Can We Know When Christ Will Return?

A lot of people like to quote Matthew 24:36 as the definitive statement that no one can know when Christ will return.  It says:
“No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
Matthew 24:36
But the phrase “no one knows about that day or hour” is actually an IDIOM.  The word idiom is defined this way in the dictionary:
A group of words established by usage as having a meaning not deducible from those of the individual words (e.g., rain cats and dogs, see the light).
In using the phrase “no one knows about the day or hour” Jesus is actually referring to a specific time frame within the Jewish calendar. Rosh Hashanah or the Feast of Trumpets.
Consider the following explaination by a brother on YouTube.

This concept is further developed by the following video.  View the first 2:25 minutes of this video.

The Feast of the New Moon/Rosh Hashanah/or Feast of Trumpets to which the previous video is referring, is just one feast that tells of the life of Christ.  To learn about The Feasts of the Lord, watch the following video.  These feasts were all given to us to reveal specific TIME FRAMES in the life of Christ, including our rapture and his return.

So can we know WHEN Christ will return?  The answer is definitely YES!

Since Israel is not offering sacrifices, and we are in 2012, this guy must be mistaken on his interpretation of Daniel 9-12. We will see come 2013 if the great tribulation starts. If not, he would be a false prophet according to Deut 18:15-22. This is the test of the Bible. Steve :) Also, read Luke 17:22-37. Jesus teaches those "taken" are His, those left are those destined for judgment. Look up Strong's 3880-paralambano. It is used in John 14:3 "receive you to Myself." Luke 21:29, says the fig tree and "all trees". The plain teaching of Jesus is those that see great tribulation, the Antichrist, and signs in the sun, moon, and stars, is the generation He was refering to. They will see His coming, or parousia Strong's 3952.
Steve,

I don't believe it is necessary to see the temple built in order to encounter the "abomination that cause desolation". All that means is that the Antichrist STOPS the sacrifices and offerings of temple. All you have to do is look to Nehemiah to see that they offered sacrifices BEFORE the tempe was rebuild in that time frame. The Jews are ready this minute to begin the sacrifices, it's just a matter of Israeli will. All of the instruments for sacrifice have already been created. Also you don't need a temple to cause desolation. The Antichrist could simply erect his statue on the mount where the temple would go. If my timeline is correct we should see this happening by February or March of 2013.

Also, the scripture you refer to, the one taken and the one left is actually opposite of what you say. Who was "taken" in the example of Noah and the ark? Noah and his family were "taken". The untaken were left to die in the flood. Notice Jesus refers to the untaken as those to where the vultures gathered. Meaning the "untaken" were dead, just like in the days of Noah.

Thanks for sharing my friend, we could have major good discussions.

Gregg
Yeah, about one "taken", that is what I said. Jesus is teaching the "rapture", in Matt 24:38-41, Luke 17:26-35. Taken is the same word He used in John 14:3. I believe this is how we can find the proper teaching. Jesus uses the same word in 3 different places, speaking of the same thing-what and when, will happen when He receives those who are His, to Himself. What was not clear was when the dead would rise. Paul then clarifies this in 1st Thess 4:15, "the word of the Lord". Paul gives us the order of the resurrection. Jesus clearly teaches the "rapture" in the Gospels. ..About the sacrifices. It is clear they are not offering them now. In the middle of the week Antichrist will stop them. So we will see come 2013! But I believe Paul teaches it will have to be at least a "tabernacle", in 2nd Thess 2:4. Jesus teaches, the idol/beast, will stand in the "holy place". This has to be the inner part of a Temple or a Tabernacle, from my studies. Steve :)
I also think we can know, as shown in the following article:

can you refresh the link, it doesn't work. Thanks
Oswald,

Thank you for your comments and article. I am thankful that other thoughtful Christians understand that we can know when Christ will return. To me the key is in the Feasts of the Lord. It's an interesting study. Those feasts happen on specific days. The Passover for instance. Christ actually died on Passover. The Feast of Trumpets speaks of the Rapture. Will He come on the Feast of the Trumpets? I think so. The signs of the times as you write about helps us understand what decade, even which year. May He come soon. God bless you my brother!
